This is some of the best news that has happened in ages.
is a great system for managing your email, but up until now it has not been possible to use IMAP.

The introduction of IMAP means that the same mailbox can be accessed by different users on different computers and changes are kept in sync. For small office setups and small businesses run from home this is ideal.

gives you a fully functioning mail system with fantastic anti spam and antivirus control. You can also keep documents, spreadsheets and presentations online and accessible from anywhere. You also have on online calendaring application which sends reminders to your mobile phone via sms as well as to your email. And all of it is written so that it works on most modern mobile phones with internet browsing capabilities.

I have been using it with the POP version of collecting my email for some time now, and have set this up for some of my clients, I have been hesitant to push it though because of the lack of IMAP support, but now that this is part of the package then it is on my highly recommended list.

If you want more advice on the advantages then don’t hesitate to get in touch. If you want help setting it up then please do get in touch. I was going to put some instructions here but there are already good ones at LifeHacker and at HowToGeek

I have been using Neuf.fr myself at home now for 6 months and am so impressed that I have to suggest it to all my clients and friends here in France.

With this deal from Neuf you get calls to landlines in a list of 50 countries (including France, UK, most of Europe, USA, Canada, New Zealand, Australia) for free. On top of which your overall ADSL and phone line costs are reduced because Neuf take over the phone line so you no longer have to pay France Telecom. You can keep your existing number and Neuf take care of all the cancellations.

On top of which you can have up to 5 neuf mobiles associated with your account and calls between these mobiles and your landline are always free.

It really seems to good to be true, but I have been trying it out for 6 months and am very satisfied with it, even for running my office ADSL and phone.

To sign up you can click on this link to Neuf.fr and enter your telephone number on the right hand side where it says ‘Votre No Fixe’ and then click on the ‘Tester votre ligne’ button. It will then check your line and will give you two options, choose the top option which will be ‘100% Neuf Box a 34,90 / mois’ and click on ‘continuer’.

On the next page you can click the free ‘Neuf Giga’ if you want some free online storage. Further down make sure that ‘Ligne telephonique Neuf Gratuit’ is ticked and then especially make sure that ‘Portabilite du numero Gratuit’ is ticked so that you keep your existing landline number.

After that you will just need to give them an alternative contact number and your email address and then payment details. They will arrange all the cancellations of your existing contracts for you.

A couple of things you should know about the setup are that you will have to have all your telephones connected to the neufbox. So if you have any extensions they will become unusable. If you already use portable phones then this is not an issue. If you don’t then you will quickly make back the cost of buying some (I highly recommend the Siemens Gigaset E450) on your call savings.

The other thing is the process. You will first receive an email confirmation, then you will receive a letter with your confirmation, and then you will receive to neufbox in the post. Then in a few days time your old France telecom line will stop working, when this happens you just plug in the neufbox following the simple diagram and wait for about 10 minutes for it to set itself up and then it should all be working fine.

And if you are at all worried about setting it up you can have a neuf.fr technician come and set it up for €45 by calling free phone 0800 975 975
