Fax via email
Do you want a fax number located in a different country and receive the faxes directly to your email inbox?
If so you should sign up with eFax if all you want to do is receive faxes this way then you can sign up for their most basic package and it wont cost you a thing.
If you want more features like the ability to send faxes via email or to have the fax number local to where you are then you can opt for one of their paid packages.
Remote assistance
If you have a problem with your computer then remote assistance allows us to work on your computer, from our office, as if we were sat at your desk.
To be able to access your computer for remote assistance you need to have windows messenger set up and running on your computer.
I have gathered here some links that explain further what remote assistance is and how it works.
Cunning Bison
I dont know why they chose the name ‘Cunning Bison’ but this is a very useful site operated by the French Governement that shows in real time what is happening on the roads throughout France. There is also lots of useful information about upcoming events on the roads.
Have a look at Bison Fute which at the moment is only available in French, but this autumn, in time for the ski season, there will be an English version available.
Premium phone rates
Both in the UK and now France there are a lot of businesses using premium phone lines for their customer services telephone number. This is quite out of order if you need to call customer services because they have let you down somehow and then you have to pay for the call.
Luckily there are usually normal geographic numbers that you can call instead of the premium rate lines and still get the same service.
In the UK check out SayNoTo0870.com
If France have a look at GeoNumbers.com
Stop Pub!
Apparently we receive an average of 40kg of junk mail in our post boxes here in France every year. We can all do our bit for the environment and cut down on this mail by putting a ‘Stop-Pub’ sticker on our post boxes.
You can try and get a sticker from your local Marie, roughly 50% of them have them.
Or ask at the checkout in your supermarket, most of them have them.
Or go to the ecologie.gouv.fr website and print one out from there.
Favourites and Bookmarks
I have been using delicious.com for managing my favourites (or favorites or bookmarks) for a while now and believe that it deserves a recommendation. I use a few different computers and it makes if very easy to access my favourites on any of them.
If you use more than one computer, or want to be able to access your bookmarks when not at home, for example in an internet cafe, then it is just the thing.
English France Telecom support
France Telecom has set up an 0800 number (free call from land lines in France) to provide English speaking support, in order to cater to the needs of the English speaking community in France.
The number is 0800 364 775
